Raid results in 14 people being taken into immigration detention

Many people do not have to worry about the possibility of being arrested when they go into work. Unfortunately, numerous immigrants in Louisiana and across the country may fear that raids on their places of employment could result in their being put in immigration detention. For many, these fears have comes true.

It was recently reported that a raid on a pallet supplier in another state resulted in over a dozen individuals being taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Apparently, federal agents went to the business and took 14 people into ICE custody. It was unclear what may have prompted the raid on this particular business, but it was noted that many people in the community were left shaken by the event.

One man indicated that the area is home to numerous Hispanic people, and because he is Mexican, he was afraid for himself, his family and his co-workers. He noted that good, hardworking individuals were taken into custody and that he took it upon himself to notify the workers' families of the arrests. The company for which the individuals work did not provide a comment for the report.

Suddenly being taken off the job and into immigration detention can seem like a nightmare for many people. Unfortunately, as this case shows, it is not an unlikely occurrence. It is important that individuals in this type of predicament remember that they do have legal options, and in efforts to understand those options, it may be wise for them to reach out to Louisiana immigration law attorneys for support.
